Tried to compress too much into the time we had, but otherwise an informative meeting. -
Speaker talked for a very long time. Part of the purpose of user groups is to be able to network, learn about what is going on in your community, etc. Given the length of the talk there was little time and little energy left for networking. That said, I found the talk interesting enough. The speaker needed to provide some higher level "pictures" to go with the details - this would help to bridge the disparity in knowledge amongst the audience given that some where relative newbies to this tech and others were quite familiar with it.— Tim

This turned out to be one of the most interesting and stimulating meetups I've been to. I felt a bit lost at first. I realize now I didn't have a good high-level idea of what Cassandra was built for and what problems it solves. I would have appreciated more of a general introduction with practical examples before digging into the details. Or maybe I'm just slow <grin>. But once I wrapped my head around things I was really interested in the subject matter. The talk was well organized, the level of detail was good, and the speaker was knowledgeable and very patient when answering questions. I would have liked to see some sample code, just to see what the API is like and how to use it properly. Thankyou Sean! -
There are some things I didn't understand very well, but it was good to get an overall idea on what Cassandra is, how and when to use it.— Mauricio

Sean knew his stuff. The discussion was lively. I learned a lot. There was a lot to talk about so a bit of knowledge about NOSQL and even Cassandra should have been a pre-requisite (e.g., prior to the meeting, send an email mentioning good sites to visit). The meetup went a bit long, but for all the right reasons.

What a fantastic presentation. It's was 100% apparent that Ari new his stuff, and was not holding back in sharing any details. I learned a lot.

Ari gave a great overview of ehcache and terracotta, answering every question thrown at him with great precision. He made a compelling argument for the value of the marriage of these two technologies.

It sounds like Sun and the JCP finally get that developers don't want to write or deal with config files. The EJB 3.1 and JSF 2.0 improvements alone are worth the upgrade.

Everyone should design and build a ui framework once. This talk was a great overview of the Squirrel UI - a custom ui framework written using Java 1.1 on linux using raw AWT. It covered the basics of separating your UI from your business logic (MVC) and simple event handling and construction of basic UI components and layout management. It provided a good insight into the decision making process for a lightweight UI.
