The Vancouver Java Users Group Message Board › Finding Java Jobs in Vancouver

Hi All,
I didn't want to spam the mailing list, as I'm not sure it's appropriate. My apologies if this board is also the wrong place. I'm an experienced Java engineer and architect, currently living and working in California. Given the current situation, I'm considering a return to Canada (I'm Canadian). This is all very preliminary, sort of testing the waters, so I'm seeking a little advice. Things like craigslist and Monster don't necessarily show the real situation "on the ground". I imagine there are quite a few jobs out there that just aren't advertised. This is compounded by my experience - plenty of JINI, OSGi and other interesting but eclectic areas of Java (but not a lot of J2EE). So, any ideas on how best to tackle (in the future) a job search in Vancouver? Has anyone had luck networking through this JUG or similar associations? Or maybe the real question is, are there different Java jobs out there, where companies are doing things a little differently? Regards, Bill |
