What can you expect in the Development Manager’s position? As part of our development team, the Development Manager will help orchestrate the overall development efforts of the project while also providing Architectural input and helping shape our development procedures and processes moving forward. You will be leading the design, development and delivery of new features and enhancements of our ecommerce product line. In this role, you will lead and participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle including planning, technical design, construction, peer reviews, documentation, testing and deployment. You will be making heavy use of the latest & greatest technologies such as, Java, GWT, Spring and Web Services, so a craving for learning new things is a must. In contrast to more traditional software shops, we follow an Agile approach to software development including: short iterations, lots of face-to-face communication, our beloved wiki, friendly high-trust environment, continuous integration and automation, weekly peer reviews, buddying developers with QA engineers, keeping processes as simple as possible, frequent retrospectives, we could go on and on. 1. Lead a team of developers and architects through the full life cycle of software development, delivery and implementation 2. Solve complex technical issues and define technical approaches to ensure solid technical decisions are made 3. Handle performance and optimization of our product in close collaboration with our performance analyst team 4. Define and meet project deadlines by understanding and analyzing requirements, designing, developing and testing solutions 5. Prioritize multiple requests from multiple projects 6. Maintain excellent business communication with Analysts, Business Owners and Technical Staff. Provide analysts, management and business owners/users with status reports, problem logs (issue logs) and service request status on all tasks in the work group. 7. Evaluate alternative approaches in design, including assessment of risks and benefits associated with each alternative 8. Participate in the development, customization and implementation of our ecommerce software 9. Drive product quality and team efficiency 10. Lead analysis and development of technical solutions to resolve problems; involve and guide other team members in problem solving activities What kind of background is required to thrive in this position? • A developer with real-life hands-on experience developing web applications • 10 + years of progressive software development experience in web based Java applications and Agile environment combined with strong software architecture expertise • 5+ years experience in a technical management role leading development efforts through the full life cycle of developing, delivering, and implementing software solutions • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related • Experience with Java script, HTML, CSS and AJAX • Deep knowledge of Java technologies (Open JPA, Velocity, GWT, Spring, etc.) • Experience with: o building large-scale software applications in a team environment o at least one of the following databases: Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and/or MySQL o at least one of the following Java application server; Tomcat, BEA Weblogic, IBM WebSphere, and/or JBoss o test driven development o Eclipse RCP / SWT (or Java Swing, AWT) o Enterprise design patterns • Excellent communications skills and experience interfacing and communicating directly with clients Bragging rights Founded in 2000, Elastic Path is privately held and has grown organically with recent exponential growth; we’ve doubled revenue every year for the past three consecutive years.
